a small action
Today we gathered at the SE corner of the courthouse block in downtown Missoula and made a joyful noise.
"Honk for peace!" Oxymoron intended!
Many folks nowadays are afraid to speak up and offend others, yet their distaste for the unjust war in Iraq is strong, yet their distaste for a tyrannical president is strong. Honk for Peace! gives them an opportunity to sound out easily. This is the greatest weakness with this excellent demonstration theme: because the passers-by can make a joyful noise without discomfort, the impression we made might be as light and long-lasting as a kind smile. Whoa! I still remember some of those warm smiles ... years ago: a kind female stranger on Higgins Avenue. I may always remember that.
Therefore, I do not protest war, I advocate PEACE.
We got a great response although our toes, fingers and noses turned red with cold. We decided to consider this not our SunDance, but our IceWalk. Although the honkers have an easy time of it, the "advocators" made a sacrifice, small, to be there in the cold.
PEACE brothers and sisters
